NAC Gnomes – draft

Yarn: Dazzle 8 ply colours for boots pants, belt, shirt, skin and beard

Needles: 3 mm double pointed needles

BODY – Starting at boots

Cast on 20sts in colour for boots join in the round. Leave a long tail

Knit 5 rounds in boot colour. 

Change to pants colour, knit 6 rounds, place a marker between stitches 10 and 11

Increase rounds

Rnd 1  k1, kfb, knit to two stitches before marker, kfb, k1, slip marker, k1, kfb, knit to two stitches before end of row, kfb, k1

Knit 3 rounds

Repeat above 4 rounds once more.

Work increase round 1 once more (32sts)

Knit one round

Stitch marker can now be removed 

Change to belt colour, knit 3 rounds

Change to shirt colour knit 14 rounds

Decrease in shirt colour

Decrease round 1: (k6, k2tog) around (28sts)

Knit two rounds

Decrease round 2: (k5, k2tog) around (24sts)

Knit one round

Change to face colour, leaving a long end of shirt colour, 30cm.

Knit 9 rounds in face colour

Change to hat colour

Knit one round

Purl next round for brim of hat.

Knit 2 rounds

Dec Rnd one: (k2, k2tog) around (18sts)

Knit 4 rounds

Dec Rnd two: (k1, k2tog) around (12sts)

Knit 4 rounds

Dec round three: (k2tog) around (6sts)

Knit 3 rounds

Dec round four (k2tog) around (3 sts)

Break yarn and thread yarn back through live stitches gather and secure.

Beard

keeping fairies under control is a very important job

Cast on 9 work in rows

Knit two rows

Decrease row – p2tog knit to last 2 sts, k2tog (7sts)

Knit two rows

Repeat last 3 rows twice more, 3 sts remain

Knit 1 row

Stuff hat and head

To finish K3tog and secure end.

Assembly

Gather neck and secure

Stuff body and legs

Sew feet closed

Stitch legs

Stitch arms

Stitch belt buckle 

Sew beard to face.

Embroider eyes
