– Part One – Creating effective layouts

As in taking photos or in making art the ‘trick’ to a layout that pleases the eye is effective composition.
So what is composition?
Composition describes the arrangement of elements. The way we use photos, items, colours, line, shape, value, texture, form, and space to organise or compose our layout. To give structure and convey a story.
Composition is different from the the choice of photos and items used in the layout, or the subject of those photos. Composition is what draws a viewer in and draws the eye across the whole layout and finally settles the eye on the subject of the photos.

The 8 Elements of Composition ….
- Unity
- Balance
- Movement
- Rhythm
- Focus
- Contrast
- Pattern.
- Proportion
In part 2 of this blog post series I will write about how the ‘elements of composition’ are used in arranging a effective and attractive layout.
