Do we stop playing and being imaginative as we age?
Playing make believe is an important part of our development in childhood. It is not as socially acceptable and encouraged as we age. A pity really as make believe and dreaming can be powerful stimuli to growth in our creativity. Is a creative person someone who just hasn’t let outside influences tell them to stop playing and grow up?
Pablo Picasso is quoted as saying; “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up”
I think I prefer every child is creative, a dreamer, an artist and a story teller.
I have a little vice. I love dolls. Yes, a grown up 53 year old woman is admitting there is a little part of her which refuses to let go of childish ways. Lalt, my neighbours across the way, are stocking Miniland Dolls I have maybe purchased a few… They don’t have much of a wardrobe at present but I have a plan!!
My smallest dolls are the 21cm Baby dolls. And my plan is to cloth my new dolls in handmade delights. I’m going back to childhood in more than one way here. I learned to crochet to make clothes for Barbie!
Here is my first design, a hat! I have written it in two ways. One for those who prefer straight needles and are happy to seam. And the second is in the round for those who prefer a magic loop or double pointed needles to avid the seaming.

Hi Tracy
Thanks so much for your pattern…I used it to help me with the decreasing. I’m not a knitter and I haven’t knitted for 30 years….. But have been sick lately so knitted a beanie and scarfe for my 2 1/2 yr granddaughter, she has a 38cm Miniland doll, so I’ve made it a bit bigger, hope it will fit 😊
Thanks again. Regards debbie
