Dishclothes/ washcloths make a great handmade gift for Christmas. Packaged with some locally made soaps from Sugar Shack Soaps
For a more delicate wash cloth use a 4ply cotton (unmercerised) and a 3mm hook)
Hook: 5mm
Yarn: 10ply unmercerised cotton ( Finch, Sugar’n Cream)
Gauge: Not necessary
Abbreviations: dc – double crochet, sts – stitches,
AUSTRALIAN TERMS USED
Notes:
This is an addictive pattern to make. No foundation chain to work into. Easy to modify the size. Only uses two stitch chain and double crochet.
Pattern:
Chain 3, 3 dc in first chain worked, turn. (3 sts)
Row 1: Ch 2, 2 dc in first st, ch 1, skip 1 st, 2 dc in last st, turn. (5 sts)
Row 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in first st, (ch 1, skip 1 st, dc in next ch1 space), ch 1, skip 1 st, 2 dc in last st
Repeat Row 2, repeating ( ) until dishcloth is desired size.
Next Row (start decreasing):
Ch 2, skip 2 sts, (dc in next ch 1 space, ch 1), repeat ( ) across to last ch 1 space, dc in ch 1 space, skip 1 st, dc in last st.
Repeat this row, until 3 sts remain. Turn, ch 1, skip 2 sts and dc into 2ch space.
Break yarn and finish / or make a border.
Optional Border
Work 2 rounds of dc around edge of cloth. Put 3 dc in each corner.
